A City Full of Gods
Processions Through the Heart of Town
The deities in their palanquins will move through the most central and significant areas of town today. People will gather outside homes and businesses, letting the firecrackers and smoke consume them. The festival’s spectacle transforms the quiet places into a kind of ordered chaos.
But if you walk through a place like Takua Pa Old Town when everything is quiet, you can still see why this festival is here. Tin brought Chinese miners and merchants to this coast. Their families settled here. Those businesses grew. Shrines were built.
The mining era faded, but the families remained—and so did their religious traditions. These ceremonies are not simple events happening locally. They’re part of the local landscape and continuing story.
Read — Acts 17:16–31
Paul walked through a city filled with objects of worship and it affected him deeply. But notice what he did. He looked, listened, and understood.
Then, he told the people about the God they did not yet know. That’s how we want to pray today. Not looking down on the people marching through these streets. Not treating our neighbors as a spiritual project.
Ask God to give His people both spiritual clarity and genuine love.
Pray for Christians who own businesses along these roads, teach in local schools, live in these neighborhoods and call Southern Thailand home that we would represent Jesus well.
God, You are not far from any one of us. Make Yourself known in this city.
