Who Will Protect Us?
Kho Kun & Koi Han
โข้กุ้น • โก้ยห่านTonight is Kho Kun (โข้กุ้น). Food will be offered to spiritual armies believed to guard the sacred areas during the festival.
Tonight also begins Koi Han (โก้ยห่าน). Each evening through the end of the festival, people will cross a ceremonial bridge with the hope that misfortune will be removed from their lives.
People come bringing their worries about health, family, work, and whatever might happen next. Those fears aren’t difficult for us to understand—we worry about many of the same things.
The question is: Where do we go with our fear?
Read — Psalm 121
Where does my help come from?
That might be one of the most appropriate questions we can pray over Southern Thailand tonight. The Psalmist doesn’t pretend that danger isn’t real. Instead, he looks beyond it:
His help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
As people cross the bridge tonight hoping to leave misfortune behind, pray that they would discover a security deeper than ritual protection.
Pray for the families afraid of accidents, spirits, sickness or an uncertain future, that they would discover what it means to belong to the God who watches over them.
Lord, let the people of Southern Thailand discover where their real help comes from.
